Empowering Farmers Beyond Agriculture: Maphumulo Workshop Highlights

On 26 September 2025, the Maphumulo Resource Centre was filled with joy and energy as farmers—young and old—gathered to share knowledge and explore new opportunities beyond traditional agriculture.

The workshop, hosted by Emseni Farming, Bonlé, RTS, and the Mzikayise Ndlovu Foundation, aimed to empower farmers to consider starting businesses outside of farming. Participants were encouraged to reflect deeply before launching any venture, guided by three key questions: Why? How? What? These questions are essential for building a strong foundation in both agriculture and entrepreneurship.

Honourable Mrs. J. Ngolo, Circuit Manager (CMC) under the Maphumulo Department of Education, attended the event and praised the consistent efforts of these monthly workshops. She emphasized their importance in helping young people—especially recent Grade 12 graduates—gain the confidence and skills to start their own businesses through agriculture.

Certificates were awarded to students who excelled in agricultural assignments, along with gifts and seedlings to support their journey. Farmers received spinach, beetroot, and fruit trees, which were also donated to the Maphumulo Resource Centre for planting—promoting sustainability and food security in the community.
